“Something for Everyone”

The Beccles Business  and Tourism Association would like to thank everyone who participated in the Beccles Lights switch on  to celebrate the start of the festive season in Beccles Town Centre last Friday evening.

The weather was not as bad as predicted and there were more people in town than ever before.  A great evening with something for everyone, starting with the switch on of the Beccles lights by The Mayor and Dame Trott from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The many attractions included, Santas Grotto,  the community bands on stage along with the Suffolk Samba Band and some Teenage Ninja Turtles thrown in for good measure, the Hungate Tree Festival, plus all the numerous stalls and entertainment in the centre of town.

Without all the local support from the business sector, the voluntary organisations and you, the community, we would have not be able to stage this event, so please support your local shops and businesses this Christmas and into the future so that we keep the Beccles pound in Beccles.

This year sees the third year of the Christmas Tree Trail with a wonderful prize for the lucky winner of VIP tickets to the Beccles panto, Jack and the Beanstalk.  All the trees were supplied by Evergreens Garden centre and all fifty eight  were hand delivered by Francis Markwell  and his colleagues– a big task! Maps and entry forms are available at all shops, and on the web site, and the competition runs throughout Dec.  This tree trail was only made possible with all the help from volunteers and  local businesses advertising in the leaflet namely Rosedales, Blyburgate Antiques, Sweet Memories, Lovewell Blake, Evergreens, The Jewellery Room, Observatory, Cloves and Blackwell Print.   I can tell you I’ve seen all fifty eight of the trees and they are wonderful so get out and about and find all the trees to enter the competition. Along with the lights and the Christmas windows Beccles is aglow with festive cheer.

We on the committee consider ourselves to be very fortunate to now have the pleasure of thanking all the businesses and individuals who have been generous with both their services, expertise, time and money!

Sponsors included Catherine House, Edge Computers, Rosedale Funeral Home, Keith Skeel, Wheels & Tyres Direct, Parravanis, Ellough Industrial Estate, Twyfords, Seppings, Roys, Durrants, V C Cooke, Citrus Shredding, Coopers, Market Row, Baileys, Betts, Chiltern House and Saxons.

Crisp Contractors and Brett Snowling for ensuring Beccles is so magnificently lit up. Beach Radio for publicising the event and Moore Music Roadshow for providing equipment and entertainment throughout the evening. The CAB office for hosting refreshments for the volunteers.  Beccles Town Council for paying for the lights to be displayed and their support. Dougie Peck and the Beccles Lions for their support and advice. Lucy Coote for coming on board and assisting us. Charlie Ketchen for answering our call for help recording the evening.  Helping Hands for building and manning Santa’s Grotto, and all the 48 stewards who gave up their valuable time free of charge and came out to help.  Forgive me if we have missed anyone out, you help was sincerely appreciated.  We on the organising committee, had great fun organising it and hope you had great fun too.
